CLIENT + PROJECT BRIEF

Raining Rocks is Tucson’s newest rock and gem store, run by Ilana and Suzanne. Suzanne is a geologist and “all-things-shiny” expert.

When they approached me in need of logo and branding design for their new rock shop, I couldn’t have been more excited! Obviously, as someone who has a photo of myself selling rocks from my yard at 5 years old, I immediately connected with these ladies!

Their new store in Tucson is overflowing with treasures. If you’re a fellow crystal and rock-lover, I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Arizona!

About the Color Palette

The brand name for Raining Rocks came from a story Suzanne tells about a young boy who experienced a meteor shower for the first time. Looking up to the sky, he said, “Look, it’s raining rocks!” This name is a true gem, and we knew the logo needed to live up to the name.

With the color palette, we really wanted to create something that was playful and fun, honoring the incredible textures and colors that crystals and rocks evoke.

LOGO OVERVIEW

On the “must-have” list for colors and logo graphic inclusion was the idea of a rainbow. Say no more! We opted to go with a hexagonal shape for the main graphic portion of the logo, embracing a Saguaro cactus on the right side, with a color-blocked rainbow to the left.

We also added quartz crystals in iridescent tints to help complement the brighter colors from the rainbow. The logo design has various coloring options for the text being in both white and in charcoal so that it can work well in a variety of situations, including sticker design. This is definitely my favorite logo design of 2021!
